Shirley Mae Doan

June 27, 1934 - March 13, 2022

Shirley Mae Doan, age 87, of East Bernstadt, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022. She leaves behind three children, Judy Vires & husband Charles of Peachtree City, GA, Joy Doan of Lexington, KY, Charles Doan & wife Amy of Sharps Chapel, TN; six grandchildren, Jordan Vires of London, KY, Dylan Vires & wife Alex of Wetumpka, AL, Jade Doan & wife Kayla of Orlando, FL, Garrett Doan & wife McKenzie of Clarksville, TN, Madison Doan of Sharps Chapel, TN, Peyton Doan of Woodsfield, OH; four great grandchildren, Trystan Vires, Alicia Doan, Kayson & Palmer Vires; six step grandchildren, Alex, Jana & Finnegan Collicott, Geoffrey L., Courtney & Geoffrey W. Hatten , plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Lee Doan; her parents, John Hugh Smith and Dora Fields Smith; and by ten siblings, Imogene McCowan, Charlene Hoskins, Mary Jo Baker, Buelah Farmer, Stella Vaughn, Nell Burnett, Austin Smith, Letch Smith, Colonel Smith, Samson Smith. Shirley (Moomie) enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling domestically and abroad, and going to church. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ, and she also attended Lakeview Church of Christ. In her spare time, she never missed an opportunity to flirt with good-looking fellas. Moomie enjoyed gardening and mowing her lawn. Moomie was devoted to her family. She took care of her son’s four children after he was deployed for a year to Iraq following the death of his wife. For that, she received a certificate of appreciation from General David H. Patraeus. She had the ability to adjust to the trends and times, yet she did everything with class. Moomie was a smart lady who called it like she saw it. She never hesitated to tell all of her grandchildren, “What’s to be is up to me.” Shirley lived a good, long, wonderful life. Moomie, “We love you more”. Funeral services for Shirley Mae Doan will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Snuffer Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Shirley’s honor to Mt. Zion Church of Christ, 975 East Laurel Rd., London, KY 40741 or to Lakeview Church of Christ, 8444 North US Hwy 25, East Bernstadt, KY 40729.
