Mildred “Midge” Warf, age 91, of Cumberland, Kentucky passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021. She leaves behind two children, Bobby Warf & wife Sue, Danny Warf & girlfriend Sheila Walters, all of Cumberland, KY; two siblings, Jack Letanosky & wife Melvina of Lakeland, FL, Francis Burton of Lynch, KY; six grandchildren, Denise Baird, Alisha Irvin, Travis Warf, Brian Isbell, Corey Warf and Jake Warf; four great grandchildren, Dylan Irvin, Dawson Irvin, Jax Irvin, Luke Isbell, plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. J. Warf; her parents, Adam and Lula Hoiska; six siblings, Helen Begley, Mary Nelle Hoiska, Margaret Hoiska, Ethel Balchin, Adam (Bull) Hoiska, Jr., Paul Hoiska. Midge was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church in Cumberland, Kentucky. Midge was a happy, joyful person who loved people and loved to laugh. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. She was affectionately known by many as “Nanny Midge” and was loved by everyone who knew her. Midge enjoyed taking pictures, cooking and baking, and giving away her handmade crafts and poems to friends and strangers alike. She was also faithful to distribute all the extra church bulletins from her church every week. She happily gave these out at stores, restaurants, doctor’s offices, and anywhere else she might have been. Midge spent several years volunteering her time at Tri-Cities Nursing Home where she took her beloved dog, Angel, to visit the residents. In 2004, Midge was selected as one of the First Ladies of Harlan County by Zeta Beta Chapter Beta Sigma Phi. This was based on character and community service. Midge considered this a great honor and was so proud to have been chosen. Midge was also very proud of her weekly column in the Tri-City newspaper, “Cooking with Midge” which featured her recipes. This was a source of great fun for her entire family as everyone eagerly waited to see what recipe would be featured that week. Most importantly, Midge was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and her church. She often testified to her family and friends about the goodness of God and couldn’t speak about Jesus without crying. Although her family and friends will miss her terribly, we take great comfort in knowing that today Midge is healed, happy, and whole and she now resides in her new home in Heaven. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 says “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” We will see you again, Nanny Midge. We will see you again.
