Louella Brigmon Hughes

Louella Brigmon Hughes, age 93, of London, Kentucky passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. She leaves behind two children, Brenda Smith and Roger Hughes, both of London, KY; one sibling, Rometta Hensley of Fogertown, KY; eight grandchildren, Richard Smith, Amy McCowan, Melissa Smith, Tommy D. Smith, Cynthia Hoskins, Jennifer Allen, Wes Hughes, Sarah Barrier; sixteen great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren, plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Hughes; her parents, Richard and Vesta Fields Brigmon; one sibling, William Phillip (W. P.) Brigmon; and by her son-in-law, Tommy Smith. Louella was a retired school teacher having taught in the Laurel County school system for 32 years. She began teaching in a one-room school at Scott’s Elementary where she taught for 4 years. When the school closed, she moved to Campground Elementary where she remained for the next 28 years. In addition, she and her husband Roscoe ran a dairy farm for 48 years. She raised a garden and worked on the farm as hard as any man could. Louella enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Most of all, she loved her family, and enjoyed cooking for them. She was a dedicated Christian and was a member at East London Pentecostal Church. Later, she attended Mt. Zion Church of Christ. Funeral services for Louella Brigmon Hughes will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Helton and Bro. Terry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at the Hughes Family Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The pallbearers will be Richard Smith, Tommy D. Smith, Wes Hughes, Dalton Smith, Jared Smith, Jase Smith and Troy Smith. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2022 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
