Larry Dean Smith

February 11, 1948 - July 22, 2019

Larry Dean Smith, age 71 of London, KY passed away Monday, July 22, 2019 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Kaye Vires Smith; two children, Mitzi Smith Jones & husband Brandon and Jason Dean Smith, all of London, KY; two siblings, Patricia Ivey of London, KY and Johnny Smith & wife Phyllis of Lily, KY; three grandchildren, Kaylee Norvell, Brett Norvell, and Halle Norvell, plus a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Smith and Sara “Sadie” Moore Smith; one brother, Bill Smith. Larry was retired from the Laurel County Board of Education, where he served as a teacher for 32 years, a bus driver, and volleyball and softball coach at South Laurel High School. He was a member of Pinehill Baptist Church. Funeral services for Larry Dean Smith will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Larry Paul Roark and Lonnie Marcum officiating. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy, KY. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019 until the funeral hour also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the South Laurel Volleyball and Softball Scholarship Fund, c/o Lauren Wombles Taylor, P. O. Box 2351, London, KY 40743. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
