Jeanette “Bea” Shumate, 76, of Corbin, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on August 6, 1944. Bea was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. She leaves behind her only child, Douglas Shumate and wife Christie and dearly loved grandson, Elijah Shumate; nieces and nephews, Tammy Baker (Jerry), Stacy Carroll, Holly Taylor (Stephen), Brad Baker, Joe Hash (Rebecca), Krystal Baker (Jason), Julie Helton, Aron Lundy (Jason), Luke Lundy (Jessyca), Elisha and Daniel Lundy, Savannah and Shelby Wilson, Brady and Mayley Helton, Payton and Jaxon Taylor; Beau, Carter, and Chloie Hash; special cousins, Doyle Lawson (Maxine), Earl “Junior” Barton (Donna), and Bruce Rains (Sherry); long-time friends, Jim and Brenda Sebastian and Bob and Barbara Stulz; and many other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Glen Shumate; parents, Joe and Juanita Lawson; brother, Ralph Lawson; and sister, Shellie Joetta Hash. Bea was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed watching the online services of Faith Assembly of God in London, KY and Community Family Church in Independence, KY. She retired as a playroom attendant from Baptist Family Fitness in 2016 where she had worked for 18 years. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, reading, and listening to classic country music. She also loved hosting large family gatherings and celebrating the achievements and milestone moments of her grandson and her many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jeanette “Bea” Shumate will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Collard officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Faber, KY. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 9th beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be Brad Baker, Joe Hash, Brady Helton, Daniel Lundy, Elisha Lundy, and Stephen Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Baker, Jason Sebastian, Jim Sebastian, and Bob Stulz.
