Eugene “Gene” Thomas, age 90, of London, KY passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at his residence. He leaves behind his wife, Elsie Elizabeth Cornett Thomas; two daughters, Jeanne Thomas Smith & husband Coleman, Judy Thomas Phelps & husband Johnny both of London, KY; two sisters, Jewell Dunaway, Betty Lou Byrley & husband Randy both of London, Ky; one brother-in-law, Hiram “Jig” Cornett; four grandchildren, Cara Smith McWhorter of Lexington, KY, Chad Smith & wife Victoria of Bowling Green, KY, Johnna Phelps & husband Conrad Cessna of London, KY, Jaclyn Phelps Heath & husband Cody of Bowling Green, KY; five great-grandchildren, Jayci Elizabeth Phelps & Jasper Kate Cessna, Lucas Aron McWhorter, Elsie Jane & Emelia Drew Heath, plus a host of other family, friends and caregivers to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orie Thomas & Nell Rowland Thomas; one sibling, Vascoe Thomas; one brother-in-law, Keith Dunaway. Gene was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent from 1959 to 1996 setting sales records & earning the prestigious President’s Club. He was a US Navy service man, past president of the Cumberland Valley Saddle Club, member of the Lions Club, the Jaycees Club & a member of the London-Laurel Chamber of Commerce. He was a Master Mason in the McKee Lodge for 65 years, and Scottish Rite for 50 years. He was a member of the Oleika Temple Shriners and the “Truckin’ Fezes”. Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Thomas will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Dr. Andrew Dyer & Rev. Lynn Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, KY. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour, also at the funeral home. Pallbearers include: Mike Thomas, Chad Smith, Conrad Cessna, Cody Heath, Justin Thomas, Jay Thomas & Lucas Aron McWhorter as an Honorary Pallbearer. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
