Opal June Hensley Hammons, age 82, of London, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. She leaves behind four children, Kim George of East Bernstadt, KY, David Hammons & wife Angela of Mt. Washington, KY, Danny Joe Hammons of Ohio, Kelly Kidd & husband Jeremy of London, KY; five siblings, Reba Strong of Louisville, KY, Terry Hensley of Houston, TX, Linda Pettit of Independence, MO, Donna Burns of Independence, MO, Michael Hensley of London, KY; nine grandchildren, Trevor George, Rebecca George, Tyler Hammons & Donnie Lynn, Shelby Burns & husband Thomas, Seth Hammons, Katie Kidd, Kasen Reed, Kallie Burns, Kali Reed; two great grandchildren, Kade George, Sawyer Burns; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hammons; her parents, Calvin & Maude Eversole Hensley; and by five siblings, Saul Hensley, Helen Kane, Vonda Grubb, Wendell Hensley, Jack Hensley. Opal spent many years working at Miss Barbara's Daycare, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and dedication to nurturing young minds. A gifted homemaker and a talented cook, Opal had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home. Her door was always open, and she never hesitated to take care of anyone who showed up, feeding them with love and a warm meal. She was well-known for her delicious home-cooked meals, which always brought people together. Opal also had a green thumb and took great pride in raising a flourishing garden. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, providing fresh produce and beautiful flowers that brightened the lives of those around her. Opal's legacy is one of love, compassion, and service. She cared deeply for her family and her community, always putting others first and never expecting anything in return. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Funeral services for Opal June Hensley Hammons will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Michael Hensley, Ethan West and Laurie West officiating. Burial will follow at A. R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2024 beginning at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
