John "J.B." Gabbard

John “JB” Gabbard, age 90, of London, Kentucky passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, after a long illness. Born in Jackson County, Kentucky, on October 10, 1933, John was the son of the late Charles and Ollie Gabbard. John’s journey took him to London in 1945, where he would go on to make an indelible mark on the community. After graduating from high school, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years. His dedication to service and his community were evident throughout his life. In London, John became a cherished figure. He was a devoted little league coach and an active member of the London Jaycees, contributing to numerous community service projects. His love for music shone brightly as he sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church and performed with various gospel groups. An enthusiastic sports fan, John followed UK football, basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds with great passion. His involvement extended to local sports, where he provided radio commentary for London High School games. He also served as deputy court clerk under his father for four terms, a role in which he continued the family legacy of public service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herschel Gabbard and Jim Gabbard; and by four sisters, Doris Bruner, Bernice Bohler, Tommie House and Joyce Smith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Faye Chapman Gabbard of London, KY; three children, Timothy White of Lexington, KY, Kimberly McDonald of Lexington, KY, Rebecca Peters of London, KY; one grandson, Benjamin Peters of London, KY; plus a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends to mourn his passing. The family would like to thank the services of the Veterans Hospital of Lexington, KY, and would also like to share the love of Hospice Care of the Bluegrass, who made available to us our every need. A memorial service honoring John “JB” Gabbard will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Bro. Ova Baker officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7, 2024 beginning at 4:00 p.m. until the service hour, also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
