Edward "Ed" Parsley

Emory Edward Parsley, of London, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1937, in Long Branch, Kentucky, the son of the late Walter and Cecil Parsley. Known affectionately as Ed, he lived a life marked by faith, strength, generosity, and service to others. He was a man of his word, someone his family, friends, and community knew they could depend upon. Throughout his life, Ed devoted many years to serving Laurel County and took great pride in the community he called home. Ed served several terms as Magistrate of Laurel County’s Third District before going on to serve as Laurel County Jailer from 1996 until 2002. His many years in public service reflected his dedication to Laurel County and the people he represented and served. Ed was also a proud member of C.D. Ward Masonic Lodge in East Bernstadt, the Shriners, and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of Long Branch Pentecostal Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. When winter arrived in Kentucky, Ed enjoyed heading south. A true snowbird at heart, he cherished the winters he spent in Florida and the memories made there over the years. Above all, Ed treasured his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Evelyn Parsley; his children, Betty McKnight and husband Mike, Debbie George and husband Rick, and Jerry Parsley; his brother, Stanley Parsley; as well as ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his children, Sharon Parsley, Teddy Parsley, and Eddie Parsley; and his sisters, Annie Parsley and Leoma Thompson. Ed leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion to family, and steadfast faith. The words of 1 Corinthians 15:58 are a fitting reflection of the way he lived: “Be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord.” His strength, generosity, and dedication will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. A funeral service honoring Ed Parsley will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Cecil Benge officiating. Interment will follow in the Benge Cemetery in London, KY. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 10, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
