Doris Lefaye Deaton Wilson Greene

Doris Lefaye Deaton Wilson Greene was born June 8, 1937 in Laurel County in the Pine Grove area. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Selestic Johnson Deaton. Doris was a homemaker and minister's wife who was known for her cooking abilities as she fed many ministers, evangelists, church members, family members, and guests in her home throughout her life. Becoming a Christian at the young age of 14, Doris spent her life serving Jesus and her greatest contribution to the Kingdom of God was her continuous prayer life as she was known among family and friends as a “prayer warrior”. She was very proud of her Pentecostal Christian heritage and proudly shared her testimony to the world as well as instilling a strong faith in Jesus Christ to her children who were her greatest pride in life. Although she never graduated high school, Doris earned her GED later in life. She valued education and constantly encouraged all of her children to pursue college degrees. She was known for her impeccable housekeeping skills, organizational methods, and her excellent sewing and crafting abilities. She was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, Otis Wilson “Junior”; all of her brothers, Jessie Deaton, JR, Donald Ralph Deaton, Arnold Charles Deaton; all of her sisters, Geneva Deaton, Hazel Turner, Christine Stanifer, Josephine Patterson and Esther Martin; and a son, Donald Eugene Greene, II. At the time of her death, Doris was a resident of Laurel Heights Nursing Home. Those left behind to mourn her death include her former husband Reverend Donald Eugene Greene, daughters, Doris Vivian Greene, Donna Gail Wilson House, Debbi and husband Gary Owens, Darlene and husband Steve Bowling, and son Dwight and wife Kerri Greene. Her grandchildren include LeAnn Hoskins Ellison, Lindsey Owens, Amanda and husband Jason Brummett, Eric Fields, Alex Casey and wife Karen Fields, Callie Robinson, Brycen and wife Taylor Bowling, Megan and husband Henry Moore, Logan Bowling, and Caroline Greene. Great grandchildren include Case and Levi Brummett and Kaety Ellison. She is survived by one special sister-in-law Janet Greene and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris Lefaye Deaton Wilson Greene departed this life Jun 3, 2024. There will be a graveside service for Doris at Cottongim Cemetery, June 6th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
