Carl Hubbard

Carl Hubbard of Keavy, Kentucky departed this life on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Carl was born on December 18, 1959, in Flint, Michigan to the late Millard Hubbard Senior and Blanche Belle Muncy Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Zola Collett Oden; two brothers, Michael Dennis Fee; and William Hubbard Senior; one niece, Terri Sue Harrell; three nephews, Jeffery Owen Collett; Jason Patrick Hubbard; and Bruce Sterling Hubbard; one Sister-in-Law, Nancy Hubbard; Four brothers-in-law, Warren Collett; Bill Baker; Eugene Dixon; and Richard Oden. He is survived by three sisters, Ella Jean Dixon of Calhoun, Georgia; Laura Sue Smith and husband Doug of Keavy; and Viola Baker of Keavy; two brothers, Henry Hubbard of Grand Blanc, Michigan; and Millard Hubbard Jr. and wife Rebecca of Lewisburg, TN; Sister-in-Law, Molly Ann Hubbard of London, KY; along with a host of nephews, nieces, and extended family to mourn his passing. Carl Hubbard was a Kentucky Colonel who worked as a diesel mechanic. He was a wonderful storyteller which lived by the idea that, “No story is worth telling unless you exaggerate it.” Carl was a skilled chess opponent, who would further embellish his abilities with the amount of mental stress and anguish he imposed upon his competition by degradation and verbal assault which he believed was best part of the game. Over the years, Carl was best known as the uncle who would give all the children Mountain Dew, candy, and chocolate before returning the then hyper and uncontrollable children back to their parents. Candy and sweets were his passion. He would often fill bags with candy and gift it to all the children with or without the consent of their parents. Carl was faithful to support mission efforts in Africa for over twenty years and had friends with whom he maintained contact around the world. Carl was a lover of animals. In his yard he always maintained birdfeeders, food for the neighborhood strays, and a sense that he was responsible for the welfare of any animal that crossed the border of his domain. Carl loved American History and was a subject matter expert on all things concerned with the Civil War. He was a friend who can never be replaced in the community, his family, or to those with whom he shared his life. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Colonel Carl Hubbard will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Dale Campbell, Toby Hubbard, Jonathan Collett, and Mike Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at the Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 24, 2023 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
