Alice Ruth (Lawson) Hampton

Alice Ruth (Lawson) Hampton, age 92, of London, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1932, the seventh child of John & Mary (Johnson) Lawson, born into a big family of fifteen children. She was married to Charles (Jr.) Sturgill on May 2, 1952 and to this union was born one son, Danny Sturgill & wife Jane, and one grandson, Daniel Sturgill, who survive. She married Dorsey Hurst and he preceded her in death. She then married Homer Hampton who survives, on June 7, 2011, and his children Reba & husband Rod Scott of Nicholasville, KY and Wayne Hampton of London, KY. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Vela Abbott, Edith Stewart & husband Ernest, Janie Onkst & husband Ess, Phyllis Evans & husband Arvel, Joann Lawson, Lee Hammack & husband Robert; and four brothers, Bud Lawson & wife Eva, Dutch Lawson & wife Bert, Clyde Lawson & wife Salera and Marvin Lawson; brother-in-law, Leonard McDougall; two nephews, Kenneth Onkst, Johnny Lawson. She is also survived by four siblings, Betty Gray, Fred Lawson & wife Janice, Sallie Sue Volz & husband Bill, all of London, KY, Mary McDougall of Grass Lake, MI; her sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Lawson and Opal Felts; 22 nephews and 7 nieces, plus a host of cousins and other family and friends to mourn her passing. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community. She was a dedicated member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where she worshipped and served faithfully for over 61 years. Her unwavering faith and kind spirit were a source of inspiration to everyone who knew her. She retired from Westinghouse in 1991 after many years of dedicated service. In her retirement, Ruth found joy in crocheting and crafting, creating beautiful works of art that will be treasured by her loved ones for generations to come. Above all, Ruth cherished her family. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her children and grandchildren, making countless memories that will be held close in their hearts. A funeral service honoring Alice Ruth (Lawson) Hampton will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Dwayne Arthur and Gary Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Wigginton Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be Mark Begley, Wayne Lawson, Terry Lawson, Kelvin Lawson and Thomas Stewart. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
