Richard Glenn Blair

On Monday, August 27, 2018, Richard Glenn Blair, (Rick, Ricky, Big Red Blair, Marine, Captain, Veteran, Logan County), passed at the age of 70. Richard was born on March 13, 1948 in Coal Branch Hollow, Logan County, West Virginia to Elmer and Audrey Wells Blair. He graduated from Logan County High School in 1967. He then went to Vietnam to fight for his country as a marine. His works included Ford Motor Company, coal miner, carpenter, landscaper, deep sea diver, and he found a love for bridge building where he retired with Ranger Company. Richard was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He had a love for fishing and hunting. If you had the pleasure of doing this with him, it was always an experience. Richard was an avid music lover and musician. His largest passion was entertaining people with his guitar. He loved to write his own poetry, songs and had a passion to sing and play for everybody. Richard’s last quote about life was, “I want to go to heaven as a child and be the tallest kid on the playground.” Richard Blair surely made an impact on all that knew him in his life. He leaves behind his wife, Debra Hitchcock Blair, mother of Eric Blair, of Daytona Beach, FL, Ruby Blair Deskins, mother of Lucinda Weaver & husband Wayne, of London, KY, Richard Blair II & wife Bridget of Phoenix, AZ; six siblings, George “Butch” Baxter & wife Debbie of Chicago, IL, James “Jimmy” Baxter of Racine, OH, Nancy Blair of Gallipolis, OH, Eloise “Wedgie” Shannon of Wharncliffe, WV, Elmer “Jeanie” Blair & wife Mae of Ashford, WV, Lillie Miller & husband Ira of Wadswork, IL; six grandchildren, Savannah, James “Jimmy” Samantha “Sam”, Ryan, Joshua “Josh”, Austin; four great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Luke, Lyric, Phoenix; Aunt, Bobbie Jean Scites, of Woodbridge, VA; plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends Roger Atkins, James Smith; plus other family and friends to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Emler, and his mother, Audrey, and also special friends, Jim Blackstock and Jim Deskins. A graveside service will be held for Richard Blair on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in London, KY. Military honors will be presented by the local DAV chapter 158 of Keavy, KY. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at House-Rawlings Funeral Home in London. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
